Alison Seabeck MP Takes To The Water For A Sponsored Swim To Raise Funds For CHICKS

Alison Seabeck MP takes to the water for a sponsored

swim to raise funds for CHICKS

Press Release: 11th January 2010

Alison Seabeck MP is doing a 1,000 metre sponsored swim in Plymouth’s Central Park pool on Friday 15th January starting at 7.30pm.  Joining her in the swim will be a range of swimmers from beginners to squad swimmers from the Devonport Swimming Club and in total they aim to cover a distance of 10,000 metres over three sessions on the evening of the swim.

“The impact CHICKS has is significant and life-changing” Ms Seabeck said.  “I visited CHICKS last year to see their work.  They have a swimming pool and half as a joke I said I would do a sponsored swim.  But I was thinking in terms of their pool, which isn’t much more than five metres long”.  Ms Seabeck is a keen swimmer and was a qualified lifeguard for eight years for her local swimming club.  “I’m donning my Baywatch outfit again but it’s going to be a bit of a struggle because I haven’t swum for six months” .  Ms Seabeck hopes that sponsors will promise a penny a metre for her swim and can donate securely online via her page on the JustGiving website: www.justgiving.com/Alison-SeabeckMP

Jo Westerman, CHICKS Community Fundraising Manager says “we are extremely grateful to Alison and members of the Devonport Swimming Club for taking part in the sponsored swim and to Barry Wilkins for organising the entire event”.  We are aiming to provide respite breaks for 1,200 children in 2010 and therefore we would like to encourage as many people as possible to support CHICKS in any way they can.  Please take the time to look at our website www.chicks.org.uk and if you are a member of facebook, please join the CHICKS fan site to keep up to date with all of our news: www.facebook.com/chicks.charity”.
