Campaign for Pleural Plaques Sufferers

Alison secures debate and again urged the Government to make a decision shortly on restoring compensation for sufferers from the asbestos-related condition pleural plaques, who have been denied payouts following a 2007 Law Lords ruling.

Former service personnel at Devonport with asbestos-related illness face a “real injustice” in not being able to claim damages. Plymouth is a hotspot for asbestos-related deaths, many former Dockyard workers.

Alison said: "Why the Lords' ruling turned out the way it did, when this disease was for the previous 20 years clearly acknowledged to be a compensatable condition through employers' negligence, remains an unexplainable and unjustifiable mystery to my constituents."

I congratulate my hon. Friend the Member for Plymouth, Devonport (Alison Seabeck) on securing this important debate. The fact that this is the fifth debate that we have had on Pleural Plaques demonstrates the importance of the issue, not just to hon. Members across the political parties but, more importantly, to their constituents and those whose lives are impacted by this state of affairs....
