International Women's Day

Alison Seabeck with Event Organiser Lorraine ParkerAlison was asked to open the International Women’s Day events which took place at the Guildhall in Plymouth.  She spoke on this year’s theme of Empowering Women ending hunger and poverty, paying tribute to the many unsung women heroes who have proved an inspiration to others through their courage, selflessness and dedication championing women’s rights and human rights. 


Lady Nancy Astor and Lady Castle of Blackburn were both singled out for their pioneering work in Parliament.  Finally she paid tribute to the Queen in this her Jubilee year.


Other highlights of the day included asylum-seeker Veronica Machabire discussing some of the work she has done in Plymouth volunteering and supporting other asylum-seekers and a performance by the Military Wives Choir.
